Program Overview

The Metro Atlanta YMCA Soccer Programs combine to offer your players the opportunity to compete at the highest level within Georgia. All of our locations are affiliated with US Youth Soccer and Georgia Soccer. Our programs offer players the opportunity to compete with other leagues and programs within the state.

Our Academy / Select Program players are chosen through a skills evaluation and selection process.  Try-outs are held at the end of May and beginning of June. Upon completion, players will be placed on teams according to the evaluation conducted by the coach. Players are grouped into Divisions based on age (Academy boys & girls ages 9-12, Classic boys age 13 & above, and Athena girls age 13 & above).  All of our Academy, Classic and Athena teams represent the YMCA and are built off of the recreational program.  The focus for academy players is technical skills and as players progress and get older the focus will shift to tactical skills.

Upon selection to one of our teams your player will receive professional training sessions ran by our licensed coaching staff, weekend games, participation in tournaments and much more.

The Academy Program is a developmental program that leads to select for boys’ and girls’ teams from U-8 through U-12. Academy soccer is a good introduction to competitive soccer. It is geared toward players who are transitioning from recreational to select soccer. Professional trainers take over for practices and games in the academy program to help prepare the kids for the higher level of play that will be experienced in Select.

Select soccer is broken down into two divisions – Athena for girls and Classic for boys. Each of these Programs have several divisions depending on the level of play. Teams are divided into divisions from Classic I or Athena A to Classic V or Athena F, with Classic I & Athena A being the highest. Once a player has decided to play for a team, they commit for one full year (Fall & Spring season). U15 and older teams commit to play for the Fall season and may play in end-of-year tournaments in May once the high school season has been completed.
